Should we be terrified about Climate Change?

The issue of Climate Change has gained so much publicity and traction, that I felt the need to try to educate myself during 2022, by reading extensively, both books and journal articles . I want to cover in this post what I’ve learned, but also to go on in a separate post, to explore what theological reflection has to contribute, which is a great deal more than I had suspected, so please stick with me for the next week or so!

I first met Humphrey in 2010. We meet periodically and always end up discussing theology. He is now 86 and his deep and loyal faith over 60 years as a priest shine through him. If you’re feeling pessimistic, try Christmas!

This is the first almost normal Christmas that we’ve had in three years. It’s therefore, more than ever, a suitable time for us to think about what Christmas means, or should mean. How did we lose all compassion?

Fifty years ago, when I was a young adult, my recollection (and I hope I’m not looking through rose-tinted spectacles) is that our country was mostly courteous, tolerant and compassionate. And certainly my generation, as we grew up, was taught that it was our responsibility to look after those less fortunate than ourselves. How did that all change?
